Thursday Night Quarterback

Thursday night the Philadelphia Eagles let the dogs out and pulled off a close preseason victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars 33 to 32. Why should you care, you ask? Well, this game was Michael Vick's NFL debut since his incarceration for dogfighting (see Aug 13th entry for backstory). Vick, the Eagle's backup quarterback, completed all four of his passes for 19 yards total. Not stellar yardage by any means, but hey, his passes met their intended targets, and how can you hate on a QB for that? Vick, still new to the game of humility, admitted to trying too hard to please the crowd with some extra footwork and fancy diving too. Vick is known for his ability to run the ball, sort of like a running back would to make plays. He made plays on the field and in court on Thursday. He spent his morning globetrotting, ok fine, he only went to Virginia, to convince a federal judge of his plan to repay creditors $20 million and get out of bankruptcy. He then jaunted back to Philly to suit up for the fight, excuse us, we mean game.

Vick wasn't the only QB making headlines on Thursday. Matt Barkley was tapped as the University of Southern California Trojan's starting quarterback. This is the first time a true freshman (meaning he's literally fresh out of high school and hasn't redshirted or been on the team for a year without playing) has been named starting QB for the school. Barkley even rebuked PSA messages and didn't stay in school. Well, alright, it wasn't that bad. He actually graduated a semester early so he could be a part of USC's spring training. The boy knows what he wants and how often does that happen?
